Since 2015 Trek4Vets has hosted an annual event called Midnight2Dawn Trek that requires participants to sacrifice a night’s sleep and trek until dawn to attend their local ANZAC Day service.

The trek is designed to give each group a greater appreciation of ANZAC Day and what it represents as a nation. By walking the 4–5-hours, participants have the time to collectively reflect, discuss and gain first-hand experience into the challenges that our ADF members are facing.

This experience aims to bridge the gap between veterans and everyday Australians and forge a sense of camaraderie.

Midnight2Dawn Trek Tickets

Details

The trek is designed to help make ANZAC Day more significant for each individual involved and to show gratitude by sacrificing some sleep and comfort before attending the Dawn Service.

  • Length: approx 20km
  • Time: 4 to 5 hrs
  • Terrain: Bush tracks, steps, steep uneven terrain, single file sections, beach/soft sand, road crossings/sections, potential water crossings, fire trails. Note that each location will have its own challenges that the operators will help you negotiate.
  • Pace: Brisk walk (light jog or run if necessary to make up time). Approx 5km/hr.
  • Fitness Level: A moderate level of fitness is required to complete this trek.
  • Experience: You do not need to have previous hiking experience to join in.

Just so its clear: THIS IS NOT A WALK IN THE PARK…

We are trekking through the night. The track is only lit by your head torch. It will be cold. Shops will not be open along the way. We will be stopping 2-3 times for toilet breaks and to refuel our bodies. This will be a challenging but enjoyable and achievable experience.

Challenging Yourself?

It is your responsibility to select the appropriate weight that is suitable for the pace that is required to complete the trek on time.

We will need to maintain a brisk walking pace through various steep and uneven terrains at night.

We recommend that any individuals that wish to carry extra equipment eg. military backpack, weighted vest and/or torsion bar, to test themselves first so that they are best prepared for the event.
